Water is very important element for every living beings. What can you do when there isn’t any water near you, to fulfill the need of water you will take it from different source. Same many animal does. Just imagine, You are lost in a large desert area and you are feeling thrust and there is no water there so to fulfill the need of water you will find something like vegetation which will help you a little bit. If you will lost for a month and there isn’t any water source then you will fulfill the water need from these plants. Same thing many animal does.
There are many animals who don’t drink water but that doesn’t mean they won’t drink water when they will get. Many people claim that house Geeko doesn’t drink water but they don’t because they don’t have source of water. I personally have seen a geeko drinking water. Also many people claim that camels don’t drink water but everyone knows this is totally wrong answer. When camel see water they drink large amount and store it on there body.
Animals that Never Drink Water Lifetime
There are many animals who don’t drink water because of there habitat condition, there isn’t any water source near them so they fulfill their water need from their food. These Animals are following –
[1] kangaroo rat
Kangaroo rats, with their large hind legs and small front legs, are characterized by having four toes. They usually weigh between 70 and 170 grams (2.5 and 6.0 oz) when fully grown. The tails of these rats are longer than both their bodies and their heads. They are known to inhabit complex burrow systems, with separate chambers that serve different purposes, such as sleeping, living, and food storage. Kangaroo rats are social animals and live in colonies that can range from six to several hundred dens. Their diet primarily comprises seeds, stems, and leaves of grasses, forbs, and some perennials.
[2] Thorny Devil
There are many things and facts popular about the Thorny Devil. Many people say that they Drink Water Through Their Feet and some says thorny devil lizard uses its entire skin as a web of drinking straws to soak up water from soggy sand. Scientists have been studying these from a long time and found many interesting thing about them. The thorny devil, also known as the mountain devil, thorny lizard, thorny dragon, and moloch, has a lifespan of 15 to 20 years and can grow up to 21 cm (8.3 in) in total length. This reptile has a unique defense mechanism where it features a spiny “false head” on the back of its neck. The lizard presents this to potential predators by dipping its real head, which is located elsewhere. The “false head” is made of soft tissue to deceive predators.
The thorny devil’s scales are ridged, which allows the animal to collect water by simply touching it with any part of the body, typically the limbs. Capillary action transports the water to the mouth through channels in its skin. So, technically, they don’t drink water directly.
[3] Vampire bats
Vampire Bats doesn’t drink water because their diet is enough to fulfill the need of water. When you read the name what comes on your mind? Nothing? Vampire word is enough to describe the answer we are looking for. Vampire Bats generally drink blood. Their prey doesn’t even have any idea for hours that someone is sucking the blood. An adult female vampire bat weighs 40 gm and she can drink 20 grams of blood in a 20-minute feed.
[4] Jerboa
Jerboa are desert rodents found in north America and Asia. These little animals are known as they don’t drink water for a long time. It is the same concept like if you don’t have any urgent thing than you need to adjust the thing with any suitable replacement. We all know that there isn’t any water or very less water found on the desert area and water is the very necessary element for all the living beings thus to fulfill the need of water they relay on the moisture of food they eat. They get all the required water from their food.
[5] Scorpions –
This little and dangerous creature found all over the world. Have you ever seen a Scorpion drinking water, the most of the people answers No! because they don’t drink water. They don’t need to drink water. They get all water they need directly from their food. Scorpions can be seen all places. There are many species found of Scorpions and they are venomous creature.
Conclusion – Water is the necessary need of all the living beings but many animals live on very different places where water sources are not available and to fulfill the need of water they get this directly from the food. This doesn’t mean whenever they see water they will ignore it or if you provide them water then they won’t drink. If we take example of humans’ how many days a human can be alive without water? Not so many days but it is proved on laboratories that many animals can live for years without drinking water.
