Bengaluru Will Celebrate Festival of Dogs on October 17

It is often said that dogs are the best friends of human beings. Then why are people afraid of them? Generally, most dogs live on the streets in India. On most streets, you can spot street dogs, and many pet lovers also love to keep dogs as pets. There may be many species of dogs, but all the species are commonly known as dogs.

In our ecology, or we can say in our environment, every animal or living being has a special role in our ecosystem. They are an important factor in our ecosystem, which is why they exist in the environment. It is our duty to protect them and maintain a proper balance in the environment.

Many people complain that street dogs can be harmful to human beings. Sometimes they attack humans, or a group of dogs may harm people, especially at night. That’s why they complain to the municipality to take action and reduce the number of dogs in their area.

Why is everyone just looking at the negative side of street dogs? There are many positive things about dogs, which is why people started keeping them as pets. Have you ever thought about why humans don’t keep lions or tigers as pets? Compared to these animals, why did humans choose dogs instead? There must be some positive reasons why humans chose dogs as pets. So, why do some people today hate dogs?

Festival of Dogs on October 17

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has decided to celebrate the ‘Festival of Dogs’ on October 17 by bringing together Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) and animal caretakers across the city to share stories of love and the bond they share with street dogs.

The main aim of this initiative is to introduce people to the positive side of dogs. We can’t say that everyone hates dogs, but some people do, and many have the belief that dogs are harmful to humans, which is why they are afraid of them. However, not every street dog is harmful, and they are ecologically important to humans and the environment. People should understand the value of dogs and come forward to help them, especially since many street dogs don’t even get food daily. People should come together to provide food for them and show their love and care for dogs.

In a press statement, Suralkar Vikas Kishor, Special Commissioner of Health, BBMP, said, “Dogs are more often than not looked at negatively with the main focus on dog bites and fear of attacks, while most dogs are very loyal, obedient, protective, and beautiful companions for humans. While preventive measures to manage conflicts are advocated, we are keen on celebrating and highlighting their positive contributions to society.”

On the same day, BBMP will also kickstart pilot feeding exercise by on-boarding pourakarmikas of 4 wards to assist in feeding community dogs by coordinating with restaurants in that area.

“As the project progresses, we will improve the usage of leftover food by connecting the restaurants with more caretakers in each area, that way dogs are fed consistently everyday,” he said.

I have completed my Master's degree in Zoology and I like exploring new information about animals. Apart from human there are a lot of living beings so I try to introduce something informative about living beings (animals).
