The cell is the basic functional and structural unit of all the living beings. There are several functions which occur inside the cell. Generally, we know about anabolism and catabolism, which are together called metabolism. Through these processes, the energy and many things are formed inside the cell and there are many things inside any of the cell which are also known as cell organelles. Different cell organelles have different functions and the cell is divided with different functions which are performed by different cell organelles. Soon would you guess that which is known as kitchen of the cell? Definitely, we are talking about this cell organelle as we know that each cell is formed of different cell organelles which perform different functions.
Which is known as kitchen of this cell.
In our human being’s daily life, what we understand the kitchen is a place where food is prepared and which works as energy source for ourselves. So the place where it is formed inside the cell will be called the kitchen of the cell. So the answer of this question, that which is known as kitchen of the cell is chloroplast.
The chloroplast is not found in every living being. Generally, it is only found in plants. In animals, the chloroplast is absent. We all know that the plants are known as producers and except plants, each and every living being on the Earth rely on the other animal or living being or energy or food. If we will talk about human beings, then definitely we make food for us. But we rely on the other things like vegetables or if we are non-vegetarian then generally we eat other animals.
In the case of plants, they do not rely on other animals or any other plants. They generally make their own food through the process of photosynthesis we all have studied in our science book. In the process of photosynthesis, the chloroplast plays a key role in this process and throughout this process the cell gets energy. The process of photosynthesis is that plant leaves and green parts absorb sunlight and in the presence of water, they make food. And to absorb the sunlight, chloroplast is known as essential element of photosynthesis, the chloroplast is very important because it contains chlorophyll which is essential for photosynthesis.
Hence, chloroplast is known as kitchen of the cell because it makes food for the plant which could be stored in different organelles of the plant and further used and in this process the plant does not rely on any other plant or any other animals. That’s why it is called kitchen of the cell, because in kitchen we make food for us.
Why mitochondria isn’t called kitchen of the cell?
This is a common question. Generally, people ask when they hear about the answer. Most of the people think that the mitochondria will be the answer of this question because it also produces energy. OK. But in the mitochondria we directly get ATP. And this ATP is received from food they are really consumed from other plants or other animals. In the case of mitochondria, we generally consume food from outside source. We do not make food from ourselves. Or the food is not made inside the cell. That’s why the mitochondria won’t be the correct answer of which cell is known as kitchen of the cell.
We call chloroplast as kitchen of the cell because inside chloroplast the photosynthesis function occurs, in which the plant makes the food inside the chloroplast by themselves. They do not directly consume any food from external source and then they convert these into ATP, which generally we see in the case of mitochondria. So the correct answer would be the chloroplast is known as kitchen of the cell.
This question could be asked in various ways that which cell organelle is called kitchen of the cell. So we all know that each cell is made of different cell organelles. Example: mitochondria, Golgi apparatus, nucleus, endoplasmic reticulum, chloroplast, etc. If someone will ask that which cell organelle is called kitchen of the cell then the answer would be the same or if someone will ask that which is known as kitchen of the cell then again the answer would be same. So don’t be confused. There is only one kitchen of the cell which is chloroplast.
How Does Chloroplast Produce Food for Plants?
We all know that plants, especially green plants, are known as producers, meaning they can make their own food. The process of food production in plants begins with chlorophyll.
Chlorophyll is the green pigment found in plant cells that absorbs sunlight and aids in the production of food through the process of photosynthesis. During photosynthesis, plants use carbon dioxide, water, and sunlight to produce food, primarily in the leaves and other green parts of the plant.
What is Chloroplast?
Chloroplast is a cell organelle in plants responsible for their green color. It is typically found in green plant cells and contains its own DNA. Plants with chloroplasts are capable of producing their own food through the process of photosynthesis.
Key Functions of Chloroplast:
- Absorbs sunlight through chlorophyll.
- Converts carbon dioxide and water into glucose and oxygen during photosynthesis.
- Stores energy in the form of chemical bonds in glucose.
Thus, the chloroplast is rightly called the “kitchen of the cell” due to its role in food production!
