A terrifying crocodile attack has been reported from Kania Ghat Pati village, located under the Nohta police station in Damoh district, Madhya Pradesh. The incident occurred when a woman, accompanied by her friend, went to the river for a routine bath. What started as an ordinary morning quickly turned into a nightmare.
According to eyewitnesses, as the woman was bathing in the river, a crocodile suddenly emerged from the water and grabbed her leg. Within seconds, the reptile dragged her into the deep river, leaving her helpless and with no time to react. Her friend and nearby villagers were left stunned as the scene unfolded rapidly before their eyes.
Despite immediate attempts by villagers to chase the crocodile and rescue the woman, she could not be saved in time. Several locals recorded videos of the tragic event, further sparking fear and outrage across the area. After hours of search, the woman’s body was recovered near a riverbank by the villagers.
This is not the first such incident in the region. Just last year, the same river witnessed another crocodile attack in which an eight-year-old boy lost his life while bathing with his father. He, too, was pulled under by a crocodile, and despite efforts, could not be rescued.
Authorities have since stepped in, marking the area as a danger zone and issuing a public advisory urging residents not to visit the river alone, especially at night. Signboards warning of crocodile presence have also been installed at several points along the riverbank.
The recent attack has caused widespread panic among villagers. Many residents gathered in protest and even blocked the nearby highway, demanding action and greater protection. Officials soon arrived at the scene, engaged with the community, and assured villagers that efforts are underway to capture and relocate the dangerous crocodile to a safer area.
Forest officials and wildlife rescue teams have now launched a search operation. Experts believe that the rising number of crocodiles in the river over recent years is contributing to an increase in attacks. Since the river serves as a vital resource for daily activities such as bathing, washing, and fishing, the community remains vulnerable.
Officials have promised that safety measures will be improved and necessary steps taken to prevent future attacks. Villagers are being urged to remain cautious, avoid the river alone, and immediately report any sightings of crocodiles near populated areas.
