IndiGo airline flight was returned to the airport within a few minutes of takeoff after a bird struck the plane. For precautionary reasons, the flight was brought back to the airport. According to the news on October 24, a flight from Nagpur to Delhi was forced to return shortly after takeoff when a bird crashed into the plane. The crew detected a possible technical issue, prompting the immediate return to Nagpur. The flight was later cancelled as a safety precaution.
This was not the first such incident in the week. Just a few days earlier, on Tuesday, a similar case was reported where another flight had to return to the airport soon after takeoff. “Flight AI466, operating from Nagpur to Delhi on 24 October, returned to the airport because of safety precautions,” the report stated. Earlier in the week, an Air India flight from Mumbai to Newark (AI191) also made a precautionary return to the city after the crew detected a suspected technical issue. The aircraft landed safely at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport without any harm to passengers or crew, the airline confirmed.
“The aircraft landed safely in Nagpur and underwent maintenance checks which required extended time for rectification resulting in the cancellation of the flight. Our ground team at Nagpur provided immediate assistance to the passengers, including serving meals to them,” official told ANI
It’s becoming clear that the year 2025 hasn’t been favorable for the aviation industry or passengers. We’ve witnessed multiple crises and tragic losses, which is why airlines are now taking every warning seriously and acting promptly upon detecting any technical fault. The number of such technical problems appears to be increasing, making 2025 a challenging year for airline companies.
Fortunately, all security precautions were taken in this case. The flight landed safely back at Nagpur airport, all passengers were unharmed, and the flight was later cancelled for further safety checks to ensure passenger security.
Generally, we know that bird strikes on airplanes are fairly common and don’t usually cause major technical issues. However, as part of strict safety measures, airlines prefer to act cautiously. That’s why the flight was cancelled — to prioritize passenger safety above all else.
